ByteDroid
Local USB MTP file transfer for phones and tablets. See ByteDroid details for requirements and limits.
USB setup
- Open ByteDroid.
- Connect the device with a USB data cable.
- Unlock the device.
- Tap Allow if the device asks for USB access.
- Set USB mode to File Transfer or MTP if the device asks what the USB connection should do.
ByteDroid auto-detects the first connected USB MTP device. The Connect button remains available for manual retry.
Supported devices
- Phones and tablets that expose File Transfer / MTP over USB.
- macOS 14 or later.
- Apple Silicon or Intel Mac.
- USB data cable. Charge-only cables do not transfer files.
ByteDroid does not support cloud sync or wireless transfer.
Transfer files
Device to computer
Select device files or folders, select a computer destination, then get them from the phone.
Why connection fails
- Unlock the phone and keep the screen on.
- Tap Allow on the phone.
- Change USB mode to File Transfer or MTP.
- Unplug the cable, flip it, reseat it, then try again.
- Try another USB data cable or another Mac port.
- On the Mac, quit Preview, Image Capture, Photos, and other apps that may claim the device.
- Restart the phone if it keeps reopening the USB permission prompt.
Delete, rename, and folders
Device-side delete actions are permanent and require confirmation. Rename and new-folder actions are validated before they are sent to the device. Folder upload and folder download are supported.
Export diagnostics
The local log lives at ~/Library/Logs/ByteDroid/ByteDroid.log. Use the in-app Error Log to export redacted diagnostics when support needs a debug file.
